Germany Visa Guide

In order to employ a foreign national in Germany, an organization must obtain an official Blue Card for the candidate. This requires formal employment by a German entity and navigating through a detailed immigration process. To simplify this, Multiplier offers comprehensive assistance to companies for visas and work permits.

Visa Feasibility Check

  • Multiplier will conduct a feasibility check to evaluate if the employee is eligible to apply for a visa in Germany
  • In order to conduct the check, a basic set of documents are requested from the employee:
    1. Passport (front and back)
    2. Country of Residence
    3. Job Title/Designation/Salary
    4. Any existing German visa
    5. Comparability Degree from ZAB
  • Once the desired information is shared, our team will confirm the visa feasibility for the respective employee within 2 working days

Visa Eligibility Check

  • Employee submits the full set of requested documents which are then verified for visa eligibility
  • A kickoff call with a Multiplier Visa Specialist is scheduled

2-3 days once the required documents are duly shared with correct details

Invoicing

  • A visa and deposit invoice is sent to the client post consultation with the CSM

Comparability of degree through ZAB

  • The comparability of the degree is a document that is required for the submission of the Initial D visa
  • The Application must be submitted on this link https://zab.kmk.org/de/zeugnisbewertung/antrag 
  • There is a section where employee will be asked if you would like to apply for the Blue Card. Please check the box “Yes”
  • Draft employment contract will also need to be submitted to ZAB

D Visa (Entry Visa)

  • Employee will have to book an appointment with the respective consulate or VFS for the D-Visa
  • All the required documents will be provided to the employee for the appointment
  • Passport needs to be submitted during the appointment
  • Employee will be notified to collect the passport and the passport will have the D-Visa attached
  • Employee can enter Germany

Onboarding & Verification

  • Start date is finalised and employment contract is signed
  • Employee’s profile is activated and payroll starts running

Town Hall Registration 

Once the Employee enter Germany with D-visa, they will have to register themselves in the Townhall and provide their German residential address. The timeline for Town Hall  registration depends on the location where they will be residing as each region has different timelines.

Residence Permit

Blue Card Application

After the Town Hall registration the Resident permit/Blue card application will be submitted. It takes 3 to 4 weeks from the date of submission.

Detailed Process Overview

Step 1 – Visa Initiation 

Initiate a visa request during onboarding. The process will commence after basic details are confirmed.

Step 2 – Document Submission

The employee will receive an email from us. They must sign up and upload eligibility documents.

Step 3 – Kick off Meeting

A Visa Specialist will guide the employee through the visa process, timelines, information required and align on expected relocation date.

Step 4 – Employment Contract

The Employment contract is created by our contracts team with expected start date and is shared with the company for review.

Step 5 – Employee Signature

Once the Employment Contract is reviewed and the visa fee invoice is paid, the employment contract will further be shared with the employee for signature.

Step 6 – D- Visa

Once the employee signs the contract, he/she can proceed with the appointment for D-visa.

Step 7 – Onboarding Details

Once the D visa is issued, the employee will be requested to upload additional details such as bank details, to continue the onboarding process.

Step 8 – Employee Activation

Next, the details are verified and onboarding will be complete and the employee will be activated on Multiplier. The rest of the in country process will continue after the employee starts working.

Visa Process for the Employee

  • Documents collection & review: Eligibility documents are collected from the employee
  • Kick-off Meeting: Kick off meeting between is held with the employee
  • Employment Contract:
    Employment contract is shared with the employee once it is approved by the company and the visa fee is paid.
  • Comparability of Degree: Employee will have to apply for the comparability of degree through ZAB.
  • Documentation: Employee will be provided with all the required documents he needs to carry for the appointment.

  • Enter Germany after D-visa issuance: The employee can enter Germany and start working as soon as D-visa is issued
  • Town Hall Registration: Town Hall registration needs to be done of the address employee will be staying.

  • Blue Card: The employee receives the Blue Card within 3 to 4 weeks

Important Considerations

  • Employees are required to get the comparability of degree for their educational certificates through ZAB. This can be applied online.
  • The timeline of the appointment availability differs from country to country so the timeline may differ due to non- availability of appointments for D-Visa.

Visa Application Process Updates

Both you and the employee will receive regular notifications from our visa team regarding the progress and latest updates in the visa application process.

Kick – Off Meeting

The objective of this meeting is to offer clarity on the various milestones encompassing the entire visa process, along with associated timelines and the documents/information required. It’s important to note that milestones and timelines might differ between countries due to variations in embassy requirements and provided guidelines.

Bi-Weekly Email Updates

The objective is to provide clarity and transparency regarding the status of visa processing.

An email will be sent on a bi-weekly basis to the employee and employer containing the current status and outlining the next steps.

Monthly Updates

Meeting will be scheduled by the Visa Specialist to inform the employee of the current status and upcoming steps.
