For resident employees, the current tax rates applicable on any excess income above FJD 30,000 (Fijian dollars) are 18% (for income up to FJD 50,000 per annum) and 20% (for income above FJD 50,000 per annum). For non-resident employees, 20% is applicable from the first dollar of chargeable income.
In Fiji, the standard rate of VAT is 15%.
There is no obligatory rule, but it is a general practice to pay the 13th-month salary as a bonus.
An employer may terminate an employee by giving one month’s written notice or any other notice period as agreed by them mutually in the employment agreement. However, in the event of summary dismissal, no notice is required.
The notice period in Fiji is generally up to one month.
